Safety Policy
Two Hammers Roofing Ltd is committed to providing and maintaining a safe and healthy working environment for all employees, subcontractors, clients and members of the public who may be affected by our activities. Our goal is to prevent accidents, protect property and ensure that all work is carried out to the highest safety standards.
Our commitment
We believe that all accidents and injuries are preventable. Health and Safety is everyone’s responsibility, and we expect all members of our team to play their part in keeping sites safe, tidy and compliant at all times.
Our aims
- Provide and maintain safe systems of work, plant and equipment.
- Ensure all employees are properly trained, supervised and competent to carry out their work.
- Identify hazards, assess risks and implement appropriate control measures.
- Consult and communicate openly with employees on Health and Safety matters.
- Promote a positive safety culture where everyone looks out for one another.
- Comply with all relevant Health and Safety legislation, codes of practice and industry standards.
Management responsibilities
Company directors and management will take all reasonably practicable steps to safeguard the health, safety and welfare of employees and others. This includes providing safe access and egress, maintaining equipment, enforcing PPE use, reviewing procedures regularly, and ensuring suitable supervision and leadership on every site.
Employee responsibilities
Every employee has a legal duty to take reasonable care of their own safety and that of others who may be affected by their actions. All staff must:
- Follow all safety instructions, training and site rules.
- Use tools, equipment and PPE correctly and report defects immediately.
- Report hazards, near misses, or unsafe conditions without delay.
- Never engage in horseplay or unsafe practices on site.
- Cooperate fully with management and supervisors in maintaining safety standards.
Training and competence
We invest in ongoing training for all operatives and supervisors, including CSCS, NVQ, Asbestos Awareness, Working at Height and First Aid qualifications. Toolbox talks, refreshers and site inductions are held regularly to maintain a high level of awareness and competence.
Working at height
As a roofing and scaffolding company, working at height is central to our operations. We always prioritise fall prevention, using guardrails, edge protection and safe access equipment. All scaffolding is inspected before use and every seven days thereafter or after adverse weather. Rescue plans are in place for all fall arrest systems.
Plant, tools and equipment
All plant and equipment are maintained in a safe condition and inspected regularly. Defective or unsafe tools are removed from service immediately. Only authorised and trained personnel may operate specific machinery or access equipment.
Hazardous materials
We manage all hazardous materials in accordance with the Control of Substances Hazardous to Health (COSHH) Regulations. Data sheets are kept for all substances, and appropriate PPE and ventilation are provided where necessary. Suspected asbestos materials are never disturbed until tested and cleared by specialists.
Emergency arrangements
Every site has clear emergency procedures. Trained first aiders and first aid kits are available, and fire points are identified and maintained. Hot works are strictly controlled by permit. Rescue procedures for work at height are briefed to all operatives before work begins.
Environmental protection
We recognise our duty to protect the environment and reduce waste. Sites are kept tidy, materials are recycled where possible, and waste is removed by licensed carriers. Spill kits and environmental controls are available on all sites.
Monitoring and review
We conduct regular audits, inspections and incident reviews to ensure our Health and Safety systems remain effective. Lessons learned are shared with all staff, and our policy is reviewed annually or following any significant change in legislation or company operations.
Policy approval
This Health and Safety Policy is fully supported by the Directors of Two Hammers Roofing Ltd and is communicated to all employees and subcontractors. A copy is available to clients and regulatory bodies upon request.
